Everyone’s hair is not the same and Hair Care will be different depending on genetics, race, length, type (curly, straight, thick, thin etc). Hair indicates age and youth. Gorgeous hair does not happen naturally, there are specific components which need to be looked after to achieve the results that you want.
Our hair consists mostly of protein and we have between 90 000 and 140 000 strands of hair on our head. It is normal to lose about 50 to 100 hairs a day, but more can be lost through stress, trauma, changes in diet or hormonal levels.
It is important to understand what we can do biologically to maintain our hair and what can be done chemically. There are living and non-living parts of our hair which need different types of care. The parts of the hair which are living are:
- Hair Follicle
- Hair Root
- Root Sheath
- Sebaceous Gland
Hair Care Regime
The first and fundamental thing we can do in our Hair Care regime is to look at our diet. A well maintained diet with proper nutrition is essential for good hair. If you eat too many chocolates, cakes, sugary drinks and saturated fats then you can do a lot of damage to your hair. Eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables as well as protein and essential fatty acids. Drinking plenty of water will keep your hair hydrated and silky. Make sure you eat foods high in iron, zinc, copper and Vitamins A, B, C and E.
It is very important to have good hygiene practices when it comes to Hair Care. There are many differing opinions about whether to shampoo wash your hair daily or not and what type of hair product to put in your hair.
A visit to a good hair salon is vital if you wish to maintain a great routine. The important thing about hair is that you need to do what you can to it to enhance your appearance and draw attention away from any defects. Having lovely hair is a great asset and gives you a boost to your confidence level. Hair needs to be healthy to achieve its full potential.
Nutrition, Washing, drying, brushing and any special treatments are important steps in a good Hair Care regime and should never be underestimated.

Great explanation of what is haircare. In a past life (20 years ago) I was a hairdresser and I can definitely agree that diet has a great impact on the health of hair. With your permission can I also add that there is also a great nutritional supplement called Silica which can be found in health food stores and is branded as a hair and nail health formula. If you choose to take a natural or herb supplement to improve the health of your hair check the ingredients to make sure Silica is in the formulation. It has been proven to improve growth of nails and hair up to 1 third more quickly.

Hello Bev
Thankyou so much for adding some great information about the Silica!
Aren’t past lives great!
I went to see a trichologist a while back and he mentioned that I should be getting some sort of protein in the morning, whether it be soe eggs or even something like a protein drink first thing. I actually found it to be quite helpful.
Hair care is a must for every person. It is vital as it is part of the physical aspect in which we are being noticed. It serves as protection for our scalp too.
